School Maintenance, Security and Grounds (Gardening) Officer - AIC

Australian Islamic College is a faith-based K-12 co-educational facility catering for over 5,500 students from five sites at Thornlie, Dianella, Henley Brook, Forrestdale and Kewdale in WA and one site in Adelaide, SA.

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance, Security and Grounds (Gardening) officers for all Perth schools. This is a hands-on role responsible for the daily upkeep, safety, and presentation of each school. This position requires actively performing physical work across maintenance, traffic control, security, and gardening/ground keeping to ensure the school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Security and Daily Operations

• Patrol school grounds to ensure safety and security

• Monitor entry points and ensure visitors follow sign-in procedures

• Identify and address safety hazards immediately

Traffic Control (Hands-On)

• Direct traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times

• Assist students safely entering and exiting the school grounds

• Set up and pack down traffic cones, barriers, and signage daily

• Ensure safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians

Maintenance (Hands-On Work)

• Carry out minor repairs (doors, locks, furniture, fixtures)

• Perform basic painting, patching, and upkeep tasks

• Move and set up furniture and equipment as required

• Maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas, paths, and facilities

• Report major maintenance issues

Grounds and Gardening (Core Duty)

• Maintain lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas across the school

• Mow lawns, edge, prune shrubs, and remove weeds regularly

• Water plants and ensure gardens are healthy and well-presented

• Clear leaves, rubbish, and debris from outdoor areas

• Maintain irrigation systems (basic checks and upkeep)

• Ensure all outdoor spaces are safe, tidy, and presentable

 General Duties

• Perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and cleaning

• Maintain and store tools and equipment properly

• Assist staff with operational needs as required

Skills and Experience

• Experience in gardening/ground keeping and general maintenance

• Ability to perform manual labour daily

• Practical skills in basic repairs and outdoor work

• Understanding of safety practices in a school environment

• Ability to work independently and follow instructions

Requirements

• Physically fit and capable of manual work

• Valid Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain)

• Reliable, punctual, and proactive
