Are you an experienced horticulture professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for maintaining high-quality parks and reserves? The City of Melville is seeking a motivated Assistant Supervisor – Reserves to support the delivery of our reserves maintenance programs and help lead a dedicated team maintaining our valued community spaces.
Location: City of Melville Operations Centre
Salary: Level 4 $ 79,100.18 to $ 84,381.44 p.a + 12% Super

About the Role
As Assistant Supervisor – Reserves, you will provide leadership, supervision and training to the Reserves Maintenance Team. You will assist in delivering high-quality turf and garden maintenance, tree care and asset maintenance programs that ensure our parks and reserves remain safe, attractive and sustainable for the community.
This role works closely with the Reserve Coordinator and Supervisor and provides hands-on support across a broad range of horticultural and operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the leadership, supervision and training of the Reserves Maintenance Team
Provide on-the-job training in turf, garden and tree maintenance practices
Support the delivery of reserve maintenance programs and schedules
Assist with contractor coordination and supervision
Identify and report maintenance and safety issues
Provide horticultural and technical advice to staff and stakeholders
Contribute to reserve inspections and asset audits
Assist with budgets and maintenance planning
Support development and implementation of asset and maintenance plans
Promote a strong Safety, Health, Environment & Quality culture
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
Maintain a high standard of customer service
Act in the Reserve Supervisor role when required
About you
To be successful in this role you will have strong practical horticultural experience combined with leadership capability and the ability to support and develop staff.
Practical experience in amenity horticulture and reserves maintenance
Strong knowledge of turf management practices
Previous experience supervising or training staff day to day operations
Experience operating horticultural plant and equipment safely
Strong communication and customer service skills
Good problem-solving and decision-making ability
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience training staff in plant and machinery use
Essential Requirements
Certificate III in Horticulture (or working towards)
White Card
Chainsaw qualification
MR Driver’s Licence
Desirable Qualifications
Senior First Aid Certificate
Forklift Licence
Experience with maintenance programs and asset management plans
Experience supervising contractors
Experience with budgets and financial processes
