General Fitter

The Maker is seeking a skilled and reliable General Fitter to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, precision skills, and a hands-on approach to assembling, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment.

As a General Fitter, you will work with metal components and machinery to build, maintain, and repair equipment to high standards. You will follow technical drawings and specifications, operate precision tools, and work with both hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure machinery runs efficiently and safely.

Task & responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications to determine suitable materials, processes, and machine settings
• Assemble and fit metal parts and subassemblies to construct machines, equipment, and mechanical components
• Check fabricated and assembled components for accuracy, fit, and tolerances using precision measuring instruments
• Set up and operate machining tools, presses, and dies to cut, shape, grind, drill, and form metal components
• Cut. thread, bend, and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and systems
• Diagnose faults, perform maintenance, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and fluid power equipment
• Prepare and adjust mechanisms for machinery operation, including textile or manufacturing machines (if applicable)
• Erect and install machines and equipment on-site as required
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards and operational procedures

Qualification & experience

• Trade qualification
• Proven experience as a General Fitter or similar role
• Strong mechanical, technical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience with machining, assembly, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
