About the National Trust of Western Australia

The National Trust of Western Australia is the State’s leading independent organisation dedicated to conserving, interpreting, and celebrating Western Australia’s natural, Aboriginal and historic heritage. For more than 60 years, the Trust has worked with communities, landholders, Traditional Owners, government and partners to protect the places, landscapes and stories that shape Western Australia.

Our work spans the stewardship of significant heritage places, delivery of conservation and education programs, and long‑term protection of natural and cultural landscapes through a Private Land Conservation Covenant program. With more than 200 registered covenants across the State, the Trust plays a vital role in safeguarding biodiversity, supporting private land conservation, and strengthening community-led custodianship.

We are a values‑driven organisation committed to collaboration, integrity, and practical, on‑ground outcomes. Our Place and Landscapes team brings together specialists in ecology, land management, heritage interpretation and community engagement to ensure Western Australia’s natural heritage is protected for generations.

Joining the National Trust means contributing to meaningful, high‑impact work that supports resilient landscapes, thriving biodiversity, and deeper public understanding of the importance of heritage in all its forms.

About the Position

The Program Coordinator (Natural Heritage) coordinates the delivery of the Natural Heritage Covenant Program, leading staff, contractors and consultants to ensure effective and timely outcomes. They provide specialist technical, policy and legal advice on conservation covenants and related instruments, including their preparation, interpretation and communication to landholders.

The position works closely with government agencies, landholders and conservation partners to provide expertise in biodiversity conservation and land management, support the development of management plans and monitoring programs, and prepare submissions on covenant-related land matters. It also oversees compliance activities and maintains accurate records, spatial data and reporting systems to support program delivery and continuous improvement.

While this is a twelve-month fixed-term contract, with a six-month probationary period, subject to satisfactory performance, should the financial situation provide an opportunity for a longer-term extension, this will be considered.

Applicants found suitable, but not recommended for this vacancy, may be considered for subsequent vacancies at the National Trust for a period of twelve months.
