APC STORAGE TECHNOLOGY (PTY) LTD as part of APC GROUP is a leading national supplier of warehouse and office storage solutions. We specialise in the design, manufacture, installation, and servicing of a wide range of storage products including pallet racking and shelving.

We are offering a Research & Development Technician role in our Western Australia, Bassendean Team. This excellent opportunity will allow you to work within a growing team and business where you will learn and gain valuable experience.

About the Role

We are seeking a practical, hands-on Research & Development Technician to support product development, testing, prototyping, and continuous improvement activities within our business. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working with metal fabrication equipment, and contributing to the development of new products and systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to build prototypes, conduct testing, document results, and assist with the implementation of improvements across the business.

Due to the varied nature of the workload, the role may also involve supporting fabrication, manufacturing, and installation activities when required.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with the development, fabrication, and testing of new products and systems.

· Manufacture and modify prototypes using workshop equipment and hand tools.

· Conduct testing, inspections, measurements, and data collection.

· Identify and troubleshoot technical issues during development and testing activities.

· Prepare reports, records, and documentation relating to R&D activities.

· Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely and efficiently.

· Assist fabrication and production teams as required.

· Support site installation activities when required.

· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

· Maintain a safe and organised workshop environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

· Current Forklift Licence (LF) with practical operating experience.

· Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

· Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

· Good mechanical aptitude and practical hands-on skills.

· Experience working in a workshop, manufacturing, fabrication, maintenance, or similar industrial environment.

· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and instructions.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.

· Current driver's licence.

Highly Desirable Skills & Experience

· Metal fabrication experience.

· Basic welding skills

· Experience operating workshop machinery such as:

o Drill presses

o Bandsaws

o Cut-off saws

o Presses

o Grinding equipment

o General fabrication machinery

· Experience assisting with product development, prototyping, testing, or technical projects.

· Experience in structural steel, sheet metal, manufacturing, racking systems, or industrial equipment.

· Experience working on construction or industrial installation sites.

Qualifications

The following qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential:

· Trade qualification in Fabrication, Boiler making, Mechanical Fitting, Engineering Trades, or similar.

· Certificate III or IV in Engineering or Manufacturing.

· Diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Design, or related discipline.

· Relevant industry certifications and tickets.
