CHEF/COOK

Ciao Amore Café & Restaurant is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef/Cook to join our busy Italian restaurant. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of authentic Italian dishes while assisting in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen and maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation and hygiene.

Task & responsibilities

• Prepare, season and cook a range of Italian dishes including pasta, risotto, seafood, meat dishes, breakfasts and woodfired pizzas.
• Plan and organise food preparation and cooking activities during service periods.
• Assist with menu planning, daily specials and the development of new menu items.
• Ensure meals are prepared and presented to a consistently high standard.
• Monitor food quality, portion control and presentation standards.
• Estimate food requirements and assist with ordering ingredients and kitchen supplies.
• Monitor stock levels and ensure proper storage, rotation and preservation of food products.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety regulations.
• Ensure food is prepared, stored and served in accordance with temperature control requirements.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Minimise food wastage through effective stock control and kitchen management practices.
• Supervise, train and provide guidance to cooks, kitchen hands and junior kitchen staff where required.
• Coordinate food preparation activities with other kitchen and front-of-house staff.
• Cater for customer dietary requirements and special requests.
• Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment at all times.
• Assist in ensuring smooth kitchen operations during busy service periods.
• Perform other duties relevant to the position as reasonably directed by management.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification preferred.
• Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience as a Chef or Cook.
• Strong knowledge of Italian cuisine and food preparation techniques.
• Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
• Strong organisational and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
