WML is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Structural Engineer to join our West Perth team. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of a broad range of structural projects and play an important part in the ongoing success and development of WML's structural capability.

You will be responsible for overseeing the technical delivery and resource management of structural projects across a broad range of sectors, including:

  • Institutional facilities

  • Industrial and commercial developments

  • Residential buildings

  • Mining and resource infrastructure

  • Bridges and transport structures

  • Drainage and coastal infrastructure

Working alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to apply your expertise to complex and rewarding projects while mentoring junior engineers and building strong client relationships.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong combination of technical expertise, professional credentials, and leadership capability, including:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) qualification, or an equivalent combination of skills, knowledge, and industry experience.

  • A minimum of 10 years' relevant professional experience in structural engineering.

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia and current BEP registration.

  • Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

You will have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Structural design of residential, commercial, and office buildings.

  • Structural design of industrial and mining facilities.

  • Assessment, modification, strengthening, and restoration of heritage structures.

  • Design of civil infrastructure, including drainage structures, bridges, and coastal assets.

  • Contract administration and delivery of structural engineering projects.

In addition, you will possess:

  • Sound knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health requirements in construction environments (desirable but not essential).

  • Strong report writing, project coordination, and contract management skills.

  • The ability to work autonomously while effectively managing competing priorities.

  • Proven experience managing people, budgets, and resources to achieve project outcomes.

  • Well-developed research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency with engineering and business technologies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a diverse range of projects, providing technical leadership, project oversight, and client-focused solutions.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.

  • Prepare project proposals, including resource planning, programme development, budget forecasting, and performance targets for management review.

  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the WML Quality Management System and client-specific quality requirements where applicable.

  • Provide direction and technical oversight to drafting personnel, reviewing work to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality standards.

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment that supports professional growth and knowledge sharing.

Engineering Design & Technical Excellence

  • Deliver innovative and practical structural engineering solutions across a variety of projects.

  • Prepare engineering designs in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, Western Australian regulations, and industry best practice.

  • Produce high-quality engineering reports, specifications, and contract documentation.

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and approval agencies to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

  • Undertake and coordinate technical reviews and design verification of project deliverables.

  • Continuously develop technical expertise and contribute to the adoption of innovative engineering practices and solutions.

Project Delivery & Management

  • Manage projects through all phases, from scoping and concept development through to design, delivery, and project close-out.

  • Monitor project performance to ensure objectives are achieved within agreed scope, budget, programme, and quality requirements.

  • Identify risks and opportunities and implement strategies to support successful project outcomes.

  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of project management systems, processes, and best practices across the business.

Contract Administration & Management

  • Prepare tender and contract documentation and manage procurement processes.

  • Administer contracts and oversee contractor performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, project requirements, and quality standards.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on contractor and contract performance.

  • Support the continuous improvement of contract management frameworks and procedures within the Company.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

  • Represent WML with professionalism, integrity, and technical excellence.

  • Provide responsive and proactive communication to ensure client expectations are understood and exceeded.

  • Act as a trusted advisor, delivering practical solutions and exceptional service throughout the project lifecycle.
