West Coast Lining Systems (WCLS) is a leading provider of HDPE piping, geomembrane lining and containment solutions across the mining, water, wastewater, industrial and infrastructure sectors throughout Western Australia.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on technical role that combines HDPE welding support, testing, inspection, quality assurance and project coordination across a variety of workshop and site-based projects.

About the Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, Operations Manager or Construction Superintendent, you will play a key role in supporting the installation, testing and quality assurance of polyethylene (PE/HDPE) piping systems.

You will work closely with project teams, clients and site personnel to ensure installations are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, Australian Standards and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and assist with hydrostatic pressure testing, vacuum testing, spark testing and weld inspections.

  • Prepare and maintain test packs, inspection records, weld maps and quality documentation.

  • Support and oversee HDPE pipe welding activities including butt fusion, electrofusion and extrusion welding.

  • Monitor welding and testing activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality requirements.

  • Maintain material, weld and testing traceability records.

  • Complete Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), QA/QC documentation and assist with NCR management.

  • Coordinate third-party testing and inspections where required.

  • Assist supervisors and engineers with project delivery and installation activities.

  • Support the planning and coordination of welding crews, equipment and site activities.

  • Monitor site productivity and assist with project reporting.

  • Liaise with clients, inspectors and subcontractors to ensure quality and compliance standards are achieved.

  • Participate in audits, quality reviews, toolbox meetings and site safety initiatives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Certificate III or IV in Engineering, Mechanical, Civil or a related discipline.

  • Experience with HDPE/PE pipe welding, testing and inspection activities.

  • Knowledge of butt fusion and electrofusion welding processes.

  • Understanding of pressure testing and QA/QC requirements.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, weld procedures and specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and digital QA systems.

  • Current Driver's Licence.

  • White Card.

Highly Regarded

  • Polyethylene welding qualifications or industry certifications.

  • Pressure testing competency.

  • Confined Space Entry and Working at Heights tickets.

  • High Risk Work Licence.

  • Experience within mining, civil construction, water, wastewater or industrial projects.
