Survey Engineering Manager
Fremantle / Henderson, Western Australia
Full-time, Permanent
SUPPORT AUSTRALIA'S MOST INNOVATIVE MARINE SURVEY OPERATIONS
EGS Survey Australia is expanding rapidly. We operate two 12 m USVs (FM1 and FM2), and our 44 m DP1 offshore survey vessel Shark1 is now on station and operational off the Australian coast. With a growing pipeline of Offshore Wind, Oil & Gas, Telecommunications and HIPP projects, we are strengthening our onshore technical team to support this momentum.
We are seeking an experienced Onshore Survey Engineering Manager to join our team across our Fremantle and Henderson facilities. This is an onshore-based technical leadership role sitting at the centre of operational delivery — responsible for managing our survey asset base, driving equipment readiness, and supporting the effective utilisation and development of our survey engineers and technicians.
You will work in close partnership with our existing Senior Survey Engineer, who leads on physical mobilisations and equipment load-outs. Your focus will be on the organisational and management layer — asset tracking, documentation, procedures, team coordination and administrative oversight — ensuring the operation runs efficiently and nothing falls through the cracks.
We are looking for a proactive professional with strong attention to detail, organisational discipline, and the work ethic to lead by example. The role is demanding and high-responsibility, but equally rewarding for the right candidate.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Office-based work is split approximately 70/30 between our Fremantle office and Henderson facility. Some occasional offshore attendance may be required during major mobilisations.
Asset & Equipment Management
• Full oversight of geophysical and positioning equipment inventory and mobilisation status
• Manage asset tracking and certification through Asset Panda
• Coordinate in/out movements of survey spreads and ancillary equipment
• Ensure calibration, servicing and compliance documentation is current
• Manage spare parts strategy and critical redundancy planning
Planned Maintenance & Technical Readiness
• Implement and manage Planned Maintenance System (PMS) schedules across all survey systems
• Coordinate OEM servicing, vendor repairs and technical support
• Ensure all survey systems are operationally ready for mobilisation at all times
Offshore Team Coordination
• Organise personnel allocations for offshore survey spreads
• Provide remote technical support during offshore operations
• Assist with mobilisation documentation and technical setup procedures
• Maintain and close out technical action registers
Contractor & Vendor Management
• Manage subcontracted equipment providers and specialist contractors
• Coordinate freight, logistics and import/export of equipment
• Review technical specifications and ensure system compatibility
Training & Development
• Train and mentor new survey engineers and technicians
• Develop internal procedures, SOPs and technical competency frameworks
• Support continuous improvement across survey operations
CORE TECHNICAL EXPOSURE
You will be supporting operations involving:
• Multibeam Echo Sounders (Kongsberg / Reson)
• Side Scan Sonar (SSS) and Sub-bottom Profilers (SBP)
• Magnetometers
• USBL and GNSS positioning systems
• ROV positioning
• Geotechnical support spreads
• Tide gauges and GNSS buoy systems
• Autonomous and USV-based survey platforms
REQUIREMENTS
• 5+ years' experience in offshore geophysical survey operations
• Previous Survey Engineer or senior field-based background preferred
• Strong understanding of survey system integration and mobilisation
• Experience managing maintenance systems and technical documentation
• Ability to coordinate multiple concurrent projects
• Strong communication skills and a structured, process-driven mindset
• Offshore certifications (BOSIET/FOET, offshore medical) advantageous but not essential
• Eligible to work in Australia; full Australian driver's licence required
WHY EGS?
• Direct involvement in autonomous USV survey capability and MV Shark1, our operational 44 m DP1 survey vessel
• Exposure to offshore wind, defence, cable route and oil & gas projects
• Modern Fremantle office — close to train station, CBD and coastline
• Strong in-house asset base and engineering capability
• Stable, permanent role within a globally recognised survey group
• Supportive, high-performing technical team
Salary
$140,000 – $165,000 base + 12% super, depending on experience
