The Role

As a Structural Engineer within the demolition industry, you will be responsible for analysing and assessing existing structures ahead of demolition works, producing pre-demolition structural surveys and engineering designs, and calculating safe demolition sequences to protect workers, the public and adjacent structures. You will work closely with project and site teams to develop and oversee the implementation of method statements, ensuring all works are carried out safely and in compliance with relevant standards and legislation.

Responsibilities

• Analyses, assesses and predicts the stability, behaviour and progressive failure of existing structures to plan safe and controlled demolition activities.
• Calculates structural loads, pressures, stress distribution and load paths to determine safe dismantling sequences and temporary support requirements.
• Studies and evaluates construction materials (concrete, steel, masonry, timber, composites) to determine appropriate demolition methods, equipment selection and waste management strategies.
• Conducts detailed structural and site inspections to assess building condition, structural integrity, hazardous materials presence, and potential risks prior to demolition.
• Uses computer modelling and engineering analysis to simulate collapse behaviour, structural response during dismantling, and the impact of environmental factors such as wind or adjacent structures.
• Develops demolition methodologies, sequencing plans and temporary works designs to ensure safety, efficiency and compliance with regulations.
• Researches and implements improved demolition techniques, structural dismantling methods, risk mitigation strategies and sustainable material recovery practices.

What You’ll Bring

• Degree qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering 
• White Card and a current Driver’s Licence 
• Previous experience in demolition, civils or construction engineering
• Proficiency in structural analysis and computer modelling software 
• Strong understanding of relevant health and safety legislation 
• Excellent communication and report writing skills
