We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Gladys Newton Independent Public School is proud to be a centre of excellence, creating opportunities for success for students aged 4 to 18 years with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our school is a leader in providing educational programs for students on the autism spectrum requiring a reduction in environmental stimuli enabling them to achieve academically as well as learn to self-regulate their anxiety and behaviour.

The Role
Education Assistants take a valued role in our team. Suitable applicants will ideally collaborate in a team environment to develop and implement individual education plans and other documented plans. Suitable applicants should ideally have a knowledge of students with additional needs, and the capacity to support students with social skill development and emotional regulation. Suitable applicants would work and perform tasks that require discretion and judgement to assist students in achieving their full potential. We strive for an inclusive school environment that caters for students with a diverse range of support needs both academically and socially.
Education Assistants support students and classes across a wide range of curriculum areas and year levels within the school. Suitable applicants will ideally possess a high level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with teachers to scaffold the curriculum and provide feedback on teaching and learning adjustments. It is important that applicants have a positive attitude and the ability to anticipate and adapt to change, showing initiative and flexibility to produce the best opportunities for students.
