SUPPORT TEACHERPosition DetailsMary MacKillop Catholic Community Primary School is a co educational primary school catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, with an enrolment of approximately 450 students. The school enjoys a strong connection with the Mary MacKillop Parish, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community that prioritises pastoral care and celebrates the acceptance of all cultural and social backgrounds.

Our academic programs are designed to cater for the diverse needs of all students and include a comprehensive range of targeted support initiatives. The school continues to strengthen its Cooperative Learning philosophy, with a strong focus on collaboration, inclusion and student engagement.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and collaborative Literacy Support Teacher to join our vibrant school community. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator who is committed to improving student outcomes in English and supporting high quality teaching and learning practices across the school. This is a temporary part-time position (0.8 FTE) commencing 20 July 2026, or sooner by negotiation, concluding 31 December 2026, with the possibility of ongoing employment.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong understanding of the English curriculum and evidence based literacy instruction, with the ability to work closely with classroom teachers, school leadership and Education Assistants to provide targeted support for students. Selection Criteria

  • Be a practicing Catholic committed to supporting the objectives and ethos of Catholic Education.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers to support planning, differentiation, intervention for students with diverse needs.
  • Use data informed practices to monitor progress, inform teaching practices and accelerate student growth in literacy.
  • Support the development of consistent whole school approaches to literacy practices and instruction.
  • Demonstrate expertise in using assessment (diagnostic, formative and summative) tools to identify literacy needs in students and plan responsive intervention programs to meet student needs.
  • Implement tailored, responsive literacy lessons that address individual learning needs, accelerate progress for struggling readers, and build foundational decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills.
  • Lead and coordinate a team of Education Assistants to ensure effective implementation of literacy support programs and interventions.
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of literacy pedagogy.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, staff and families.

Qualifications RequiredThe successful applicant will be required to;

  • Undergo Mandatory Reporting Training.
  • Acquire and/or maintain relevant Accreditation requirements to work in a Catholic School.
