Since its establishment in 1982, Alzheimer’s WA has served as a prominent advocate and source of support for individuals living with dementia, as well as their families and caregivers. As we progress and enhance our services, we are moving forward in a constructive and promising direction, championing person-centred care, advocacy, education, and comprehensive support through our Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Support at Home (SAH) packages, in addition to providing day and overnight respite services across Perth, Mandurah, and Albany. About the Role

We are seeking multiple support workers across central, eastern and northern suburbs in Perth to join us on a permanent, part-time basis. Reporting directly to the House Manager, Support Workers are responsible for providing high quality dementia support services to clients including, building rapport with clients and improving overall quality of life through ongoing support.

We are particularly interested in candidates located in, or willing to work within, the following areas and surrounding suburbs:

  • South Perth
  • Willetton
  • Byford
  • Canning Vale
  • Thornlie
  • Cloverdale
  • Mount Richon
  • Lesmurdie

We encourage you to submit your application even if you are not located in any of the above locations. Regular reviews of our talent pool are conducted and suitable candidates will be contacted based on new or ad-hoc client requests.

Please note that this role primarily involves community access and in-home care support and does not include respite shifts. Successful candidates must be comfortable transporting clients in their own vehicle as part of their duties and hold a valid driver's licence and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the team to provide person-centered support to people living with dementia.
  • Build rapport and provide companionship to clientele living with dementia.
  • Contribute to improving quality of life through on-going support.
  • Create an environment supportive of the wellbeing needs of people living with dementia, their families, and their carers.
  • Plan and commit to activities that provide opportunities to maintain skills and promote independence, whilst respecting a client’s personal choice.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with people living with dementia and their carers.
  • Engage in meaningful relations with people living with dementia, supporting their abilities, always promoting their dignity, and providing reassurance and validation of their feelings.

Mandatory Qualifications / Certifications

  • Certificate III in Individual Support, Ageing or Disability.
  • First Aid (within 3 years) and CPR (within 1 year)
  • Manual handling and medication competency - previous training desired but can be arranged after onboarding
  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Clearance (within 6 months)
  • Own vehicle with comprehensive car insurance
  • Previous experience within the aged care or healthcare sector.
