We are now recruiting for the role of Work Health & Safety Advisor. As an WHS Advisor for St John WA, you will be part of the Safety Team working within the Wellbeing, Safety and Injury Management department, reporting into the WHS Team Lead.  Your unique skills will be utilised to promote a positive safety and health culture by supporting, guiding and inspiring the development, implementation, assessment and review of our safety management systems used by all team members and volunteers. You will have a variety of learning and self-development opportunities,  performing a diverse range of tasks within a collaborative, supportive team environment. 

The role is very family friendly, with flexible work arrangements offered after probation and will be permanent full-time, working Monday to Friday, based out of our office in Belmont. 

What you’ll do: 

  • Represent the Safety Team through establishing and maintaining effective and appropriate working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve workplace health and safety to deliver quality WHS outcomes across an extremely diverse business
  • Develop, administer and review WHS policies and procedures, relevant legislation and safety systems to ensure they are compliant, current and to reduce St John’s risk and exposure 
  • Conduct and provide assistance to assess and identify potential risks and evaluate the effects of any proposed risks against current processes 
  • Be involved in the development of, and conduct WHS training to better equip St John staff personnel for success 
  • Provide advice on all aspects of WHS best practice and legislation to assist managers and staff with their enquiries responsibilities 
  • Help to maintain the online St John Safety System (MyOSH) 
  • Conduct and support team members in safety reporting and investigations 
  • Assist in the management of all Safety Department training courses on the online Learning Management System 
  • Contribute to monthly reports on WHS performance and analysis of incident data 
  • Coordinate and conduct WHS system inspections and audits including the provision of reports to management 
  • Be a key partner in St John’s safety Committees focusing of key organisational risks. 

What you’ll need: 

  • Minimum requirement of a Certificate IV in WHS or higher 
  • Knowledge of the WHS Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice and the ability to provide ongoing compliance with relevant legislation 
  • Strong understanding WHS issues and procedures and the ability to identify safety issues and advise on improvement strategies 
  • Experience in investigating incidents and making recommendations for preventative action (desirable) 
  • Knowledge of risk management processes 
  • Excellent organisational, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and plan work accordingly 
  • Current Driver’s Licence
