The Town’s Reflect RAP is being finalised for submission to Reconciliation Australia for unconditional endorsement and will underpin the Town’s future reconciliation work.
The Community Development TeamPart of the Planning and Community Services Directorate, Community Development makes an integral contribution to the social, cultural, and economic development of our community. We achieve this through engaging with the local community to build social capital, facilitate capacity building, and a sense of community pride and belonging within the Town. The team works collaboratively with other business units, as well as community groups and organisations, schools, sport and recreation clubs, and members of the community to facilitate programs and activities that benefit the community such as senior services, disability access and inclusion, club development, and events.
The Role
Exciting opportunity to pave the way as our Community Development Officer (RAP). As part of our dynamic Community Development team, this new role aims to undertake a range of duties required for the implementation and ongoing development of the Towns Reconciliation Action Plan. Responsibilities include developing and supporting Reconciliation initiatives, maintaining positive and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups and members, facilitation of the Town’s RAP Working group meetings and monitoring the progress of RAP initiatives to council. Selection Criteria
The successful candidate’s core values will mirror the Town’s values of Friendly and helpful, Teamwork, Creativity, Integrity, and Respect, and be able to demonstrate the following:
Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture/s, inclusive of history, traditional and contemporary values and protocols, and other issues relevant to Aboriginal and Torres and Strait Islander peoples and their communities.
Proven ability to engage and consult effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining strong networks and relationships with internal stakeholders, other government entities, specialist interest groups, community members, and service providers.
Experience in working with Reconciliation projects and activities, and knowledge of Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP’s).
Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and evaluating events and community-based projects, including the facilitation/coordination of group activities
Highly developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently to deliver timely outcomes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing reports for broad scope audiences.
Formal qualifications and/or relevant experience in Indigenous Studies, Community Development or related fields (desirable)
Eligibility
Current National Police Certificate (no older than 3 months) is essential.
