The Department of Communities brings together the services and functions of disability services, child protection and family support, community initiatives and regional services reform.
Communities is a nationally recognised Accredited Carer Friendly Employer through the Carers + Employers program. We are currently offering casual employment. However, suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (casual or fixed-term) that arise within the next 18 months across the Department of Communities.
The Opportunity
Disability Support Workers employed by Department of Communities are known as Social Trainers.
The Department of Communities is seeking applications from Social Trainers to work with individuals who have an intellectual disability.You will provide support to people with disability in a person-centred way to achieve their goals. This will involve working alongside individuals and focusing on areas that are important to them to improve their quality of life.
The role will involve supporting people to engage in meaningful activities, supporting skill development and supporting forming of relationships. It will also include supporting with personal care including bathing, dressing, personal hygiene and toileting and household duties.

Social Trainers may be required to work with either adults or children, in a variety of accommodation options, across the Perth Metropolitan Area.
These positions are based at our various group homes. You may be required to work across multiple locations.

Prospective applicants must be able to pass a satisfactory medical and functional capacity examination based on the physical and psychological demands of the role.
Based on prior experience and qualifications in Certificate IV in Disability you may be eligible to be considered for Social Trainer Level 2.
