“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” they say - well, our protective eyewear business sure wasn’t either.
From humble beginnings, we began shipping protective eyewear from our bedroom. With support from our amazing community of customers, SafeStyle quickly outgrew our original worksite. Well, that and Dad wanted us out of the house.
Fast-forward a few years, and we’re now a fast-growing Australian lifestyle brand with national momentum, international expansion underway, and a business that needs the right financial leadership to support what comes next.
Our mission has been, and always will be, simple: to provide fashion-forward protective eyewear that anyone can wear from the worksite to the weekend.
With our roots firmly planted in home soil, we collaborate with some of the biggest names in Australia and are building our footprint globally. We’re ambitious about growth, serious about impact and committed to building a business with strong foundations; commercially, operationally and culturally.
If you’re all about high standards, strong numbers and practical commercial leadership, but don’t take yourself too seriously - read on.
👀 You’re a Strategic Financial Controller
This is a senior finance leadership role for someone who can help SafeStyle move from founder-led, fast-growth momentum into a more structured, scalable and commercially disciplined business.
You’ll lead the finance function, provide confidence in the numbers, and support the leadership team with clear, practical financial insight. This role is not just about reporting what happened - it’s about helping shape what happens next.
As SafeStyle continues to grow across Australia, New Zealand, the USA and emerging markets, you’ll play a key role in strengthening financial governance, building forecasting capability, supporting international expansion, and ensuring our finance foundations are ready for the next stage.
This role suits someone who is commercially minded, calm under pressure and comfortable building finance foundations in a growing business. You’ll be encouraged to look for practical ways to improve how things work through better systems, tools, processes and use of data.
🧩 What You’ll Be Doing
Financial Leadership & Reporting
Own the quality, accuracy and integrity of financial reporting
Prepare clear management and executive-level reporting
Provide practical financial insight to support leadership decisions
Lead budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning
Highlight key risks, opportunities and performance trends early
Controls, Governance & Risk
Strengthen financial controls, policies and governance frameworks
Ensure balance sheet integrity and clean financial records
Oversee statutory compliance and external advisor relationships
Review key finance outputs, rather than owning all processing
Ensure the finance function is audit-ready and scalable
Cashflow & Commercial Visibility
Provide leadership with clear visibility over cashflow, margins and working capital for all SafeStyle entities
Support commercial discussions around growth, cost, pricing and investment
Identify financial pressure points early and recommend practical actions
Support domestic and international planning with financial modelling and insight
Manage banking requirements and relationships in collaboration with the GM, including supporting new banking arrangements as SafeStyle expands into new regions
Systems, Tools & Scalable Foundations
Partner with the Finance Ops Manager to get more out of NetSuite and related tools
Support better reporting, dashboards and finance visibility
Encourage scalable solutions through systems, data and process improvement
Ensure finance foundations can support growth without unnecessary complexity
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Lead and develop a lean finance team, setting clear standards and accountability
Review outputs and support the team to lift capability, rather than becoming the bottleneck
Work closely with Sales, Operations, Customer Service, HR and external advisors
Bring a calm, solutions-focused approach to cross-functional problem solving
Help support a finance culture that is trusted, commercial and easy to work with
💡 Skills That Pay the Billz
We don’t expect perfection - but these will help you nail it:
Senior finance experience in a growing, fast-paced business
Strong financial control, reporting, forecasting and commercial analysis capability
Experience leading budgeting, cashflow forecasting and management reporting
Strong understanding of governance, compliance, tax and financial risk
Commercial mindset with the ability to turn numbers into practical business recommendations
Experience working with ERP systems - NetSuite experience is highly desirable
Comfortable working with external advisors, accountants, auditors, banks and legal partners
Ability to think commercially while staying close enough to the detail
Calm, pragmatic and confident communicating with founders, executives and non-finance teams
Experience with international expansion, multi-currency environments or multi-entity structures would be highly regarded
As would a systems-first mindset, with the ability to improve visibility and control through better tools, reporting and process discipline.
